Demand for renewable energy is growing across the West. While New Mexico’s abundant wind and solar energy resources are a valuable export for markets throughout the western United States, a reliable transmission network is necessary to both meet New Mexico’s demand for renewable energy and to export energy to regional buyers.

The New Mexico Renewable Transmission Authority (RETA) was created by New Mexico lawmakers to facilitate the expansion of electric transmission and energy storage projects to support the development of renewable energy generation facilities.

RETA has partnered with developers who have built, are constructing or developing over 1,500 miles of high-voltage transmission in New Mexico. These projects increase the state’s grid capacity to carry more than 10,000 megawatts, enough to power more than 5 million homes. Further, adding these lines has unlocked, or will unlock, the construction of $11 billion of renewable energy projects here in New Mexico.

New Mexico has a unique opportunity to become a nationwide leader in renewable energy generation. Now is the time to invest in the transmission infrastructure needed to deliver our renewable energy for in-state usage and for export to nearby states that will benefit our state for decades to come.
