Why Partner with RETA?
The New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) works directly with private developers to assist with the development of large-scale electrical transmission or energy storage projects. RETA provides development support to enable these projects to meet all regulatory compliance requirements from local, state and federal governments in a timely manner while balancing fair and equitable treatment of landowners who provide easements for transmission and/or storage facilities.
RETA provides independent and objective evaluation and support to promising renewable energy transmission and energy storage projects with the objective of accessing the state’s abundant renewable energy resources. In addition, RETA’s projects generally strengthen the grid and create new economic development opportunities for the state.
RETA offers many benefits to its partners through:

- RETA has government-level relationships with the State Land Office, the Department of Transportation, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, as well as other state and local agencies

RETA can offer varying levels of support for projects, depending on the developer’s needs, including providing a Letter of Support, entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), entering a project financing arrangement with the developer, or entering into an acquisition, co-development, land lease agreement.

To cover RETA’s costs for reviewing and considering the application, RETA charges a $25,000 fee to process a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Application. This fee is not assessed until the application has been reviewed by the Board of Directors and approved in an open meeting. A sample MOU is available below.
